Student Leadership

In keeping with our school ethos, we endeavour to foster leadership capacity within our students. We focus on three strands of leadership in order to develop and encourage student participation.

Student Agency

Students are encouraged to take ownership and agency of their learning. Students are active participants in their learning journey and are involved in planning and decision making in relation to their learning.

Students and teachers set deadlines and assessment dates together to ensure that students are an integral part of the process.

Students track their progress within each subject and set S.M.A.R.T targets to help them improve.

By promoting the student at the centre of all elements of the learning process, our students are empowered to lead and manage their learning journey.

Student Participation

Our students are afforded many opportunities to participate in the school community through a wide range of extra curricular activities and school events.

Students advocate for events and issues which they feel should be highlighted within our school community and are empowered to plan and carry out such events.

These include but are not limited to; Health Week, Arts & Literacy Week, The Celebration of Cultures, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Stand Up Week.

Our students play an integral role in reviewing our school policies and are asked for input on issues which affect students directly, such as exam timetables.

Student Leadership

Within all areas of our school we have both formal and informal leadership structures.

Each class has a class captain and vice captain who advocate for their class and take responsibility for issues within their class.

Each year group elects two representatives to the student council who discuss issues and areas for improvement within the school such as the design of the school uniform, the introduction of water fountains to reduce plastic waste and the redesign of the student toilets.

6th year students are interviewed and appointed as Prefects. These students represent the best attributes of our student body. They play a pivotal role in welcoming our first year students into the school community and set an example to others in terms of behaviour, respect and empathy.

Within our Prefect group a Head Girl and Deputy Head Girls are chosen by the Senior Management Team, Year Head and Student Voice & Participation Co-ordinator.
